OK, Kendrick Perkins is gone. Enough of the hypothetical B.S. C’s fans have been shouting for the past few months. Whether or not Boston would have defeated the Heat and/or won the NBA championship if President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge had kept Perk, the Celtics are where they are. And, they are preparing to offer the key acquisition in the deal, Jeff Green, a one-year, $5.9 million offer.
Green is a restricted free agent, meaning he can only sign with another team if one offers him more than Boston did. Additionally, the Celts can match any offer to retain the versatile forward. The team can even sign Green to a long-term contract, and offer him up to the maximum due to Bird Rights. Obviously, he won’t get a max deal with his talent level, but this does allow Boston to go over the salary cap to keep him in town if they so choose.
