Tim Thomas stopped 31 of Florida’s 32 shot attempts and Boston scored three 3rd period goals as the Bruins knocked off the Panthers 3-1.
After a scoreless first 20 minutes, Steve Reinprecht scored his fourth goal of the young season, wristing one past Thomas 2:14 into the 2nd period. Ex-Bruin Dennis Wideman picked up his ninth point, assisting on the goal.
Brad Marchand tied the game at 1-1 just 8 seconds into the third frame, tipping a shot in past Panthers goalie Tomas Vokoun. Mark Recchi scored his third goal of the season less than three minutes later, during a 5-3 power play. The 42-year-old veteran wasted no time finding the back of the net again.
Recchi sealed the game, wristing another shot past Vokoun with four minutes left in the contest. With the two goals, he surpassed 1,500 career points.
Center David Krejci assisted on both goals, raising his season total to ten points. Captain Zdeno Chara, Greg Campbell, Milan Lucic and Jordan Caron also recorded assists in the game.
The B’s improve to 12-6-2 with the win, while the Panthers were unable to break the .500 line and drop to 9-11 on the season. Boston returns to the ice Friday at 12:00 PM to take on the Hurricanes.
