Bruins Beat Sabres, Advance to Conference Semis

Posted by Stephen Bailey on April 27, 2010

In a down to the wire thriller, the underdog Boston Bruins knocked off the Buffalo Sabres to take the series 4-2. For the first time in the series, Boston got the first goal of the game on a David Krejci redirect during a power play 13:39 into the game. The Broons added to the lead a minute into the 2nd period on another power play goal, this one by Mark Recchi. 5 minutes later, Patrick Kaleta answered for the Sabres with a goal of his own to cut the Boston lead to 1.Just over minutes into the 3rd period Krejci netted his 2nd goal of the night and 3rd of the series, but Nathan Gerbe of the Sabres scored just 22 seconds later to keep Buffalo in the game. With just over 5 minutes to go in the game, Mioslav Satan, the hero of game 4, scored to give the B’s a little breathing room. However, that sigh of relief was cut short when Sabres forward Thomas Vanek scored with just 1:13 left in the game. Boston held on in the final seconds to secure the win and advance to face the 7th seeded Philadelphia Flyers, who upset the 2nd seeded New Jersey Devils.
